Printed cotton; approx. 28cm x 16cm
2 cotton scrap pieces
Embroidery thread for hanging loop and star detail (optional)
Iron-on fabric adhesive
Cut 4 bauble body
Seam allowance: 1cm
Arrows on the pattern pieces indicate print/pile (nap) direction.
To make the bauble;
3 Peel off the backing paper from the large circle and position it in the centre of one of the bauble body pieces. Iron it in place.
Peel away the backing paper from the small circle and position that one in the centre of the larger one and iron in place also.
7 Open these two pieces out and take another bauble body piece and, right sides together, line one side of it up with the remaining open side of the embellished bauble body piece. Sew them together along this side.
8 Add the remaining bauble body piece to one of the remaining open sides in the same way as for the others.
9 All four pieces should now be attached with one opening which now needs to be made smaller for ease of closing at the end. Match up the open edges and sew from each end inwards for approximately 5cm, this should leave an approximately 5cm opening in the middle.
11 Turn the bauble the right way out making sure that each end is pushed out as far as possible (a small screwdriver can be useful for this but care is needed not to make a hole in the fabric). Stuff and close the bauble using a ladder stitch.
12 Finally, cut an approximately 28cm of embroidery thread for the hanging loop. Thread up a large needle with the floss and take it through the tip of one end of the bauble, pulling all of the thread through except for a 5cm or so tail which needs to be left on the side that the needle entered.
13 Take the needle back through the top of the bauble as in step 12, this forms the hanging loop so only pull on the thread until the desired size of loop is achieved.
14 Tie the loose ends together with a double knot.
Thread each loose end into the body of the bauble at the top and bring the needle out anywhere and snip away any remaining thread.
Hang it up. Feel festive.
