Just before Aidan turned one I began to keep a diary to record his development and our day to day life together. Phases were passing by so quickly and it was so easy to forget how life had been only a month or two earlier and so I wanted something to look back on to help us remember. As it was, I only managed to keep it up for 6 or 7 months but even re-reading the entries for that short time has reminded me of so much. Here's a short exerpt;
Mike rumbled my secret habit of getting a sleeping Aidan out of his cot at night and cuddling him in a chair for a while. Partly I think he's a bit jealous that he didn't think of doing it. I know that essentially it's wrong but if I can't do it now, when can I?
I had completely forgotten ever doing that but reading it back I now remember doing it quite often, just sitting in the dark holding him as he slept.
Having enjoyed looking over the diary again this week has encouraged me to start writing it once more. It will be great to have a record of this period as Aidan is soon to start school and Rowan is at the mid-point of the fast-changing first year. Y'know for me to get dewy-eyed over when I'm old and grey(er) in the rocking chair.
